Refiner’s Fire includes the Book of Mormon because this project is rooted in a Latter-day Saint Christian perspective while remaining open to readers from other Christian traditions. The Book of Mormon is approached here as another testament of Jesus Christ, alongside the Bible, and the purpose of the study material is to help readers think more deeply about faith, repentance, grace, discipleship, covenant, prayer, and the ministry of Jesus Christ.
That does not mean every visitor is expected to begin with the same beliefs. Some readers may already accept the Book of Mormon as scripture. Others may be curious, uncertain, or simply interested in understanding what Latter-day Saints actually believe. Refiner’s Fire welcomes that difference. The goal is not to pressure someone into pretending certainty they do not have, but to encourage careful reading, honest questions, prayer, and respectful discussion.
Why study it alongside the Bible?
Latter-day Saints believe the Bible and the Book of Mormon both testify of Jesus Christ. The Bible remains foundational throughout Refiner’s Fire, and Book of Mormon material is clearly identified so readers can distinguish between Bible-only studies and studies that draw from the broader Latter-day Saint Standard Works. This separation is intentional because readers come from many backgrounds and should always know what sources a lesson is using.
One of the themes that shapes this approach is Jesus Christ’s statement in John 10:16 that He had “other sheep” beyond the immediate fold of His listeners. Latter-day Saints connect that teaching with the Book of Mormon account of Christ ministering to people in the Americas after His resurrection, particularly in 3 Nephi 11–28. Readers are welcome to study those passages for themselves and consider the claim prayerfully and thoughtfully.
What these studies are meant to do
The studies here will focus on the text itself, its teachings about Jesus Christ, and practical application. Some entries will compare passages with the Bible. Others will examine a single chapter, story, doctrine, or question. Where interpretation differs among Christian traditions, the material should say so rather than presenting one tradition’s interpretation as though no disagreement exists.
Refiner’s Fire is an independent project and not an official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or any other church. Readers are encouraged to use the scriptures themselves, official denominational sources when studying a church’s own teachings, and reliable historical or academic sources when a study moves beyond devotional reflection.
